Pilates on your CV

The first time I was told what the Pilates method was back in 2003, I have to admit that I didn't really understand what it was all about. I had gone to an interview where I was offered the chance to work as a trainer, having previously received training. I had just finished my degree and, although I have to admit that seeing those strange apparatuses shocked me, it also caught my attention.

Many years have passed since then and I have to say that taking that job was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.

Learning more than a method

In my case, coming from the world of physiotherapy, I found the perfect complement to help people recover from their injuries. I quickly realised that what contrology brought to the table went far beyond learning a handful of exercises. I realised that the exercises were only one way to understand and thus be able to educate the body in movement. And this is precisely the key that makes it a success, because unlike other disciplines or techniques, this method is learned to be integrated into people's lives, applying its principles to movement in their daily lives.

Universal method, to practice it and to teach it.

The fact that contrology helps to recover from injuries does not mean that it belongs to the world of physiotherapy or medicine. Just as anyone can practice it, anyone can teach it. It is simply a matter of receiving the correct training from teachers who have a broad and deep knowledge of the technique and who will help the student to fully understand it.

In all these years, and especially since I have been training teachers, many people from different professions or studies that have nothing to do with health have shown me that this method is universal and that to be a good teacher you only need to be rigorous and disciplined. After all, these qualities are necessary to learn any profession.

A career in a year

In contrast to any university study, this method can be learnt in one year which, although intense, allows you to quickly begin to develop in a dynamic profession with a real future. Although it is true that in order to improve day by day it is necessary to keep going deeper and deeper, after 12 months you can dedicate yourself to teaching Pilates sessions in your own centre or in other centres in Spain or around the world, as happens in the case of the teachers who are certified in the original school, Romana's Pilates.

What should a real Pilates training be like?

In order to be properly trained in this technique and become a real teacher, it is necessary to receive a complete training.

You may know how to use a spanner, but that doesn't make you a mechanic. In the same way, to be a real Pilates teacher you need to acquire all the knowledge about the method, from beginner to advanced level, on all the existing apparatus as well as on the mat, in order to be able to really know how to deal with any person, taking into account their characteristics.

This is a method that cannot be taught in instalments. Therefore, all those schools or people who teach it by disintegrating some parts from others, either by levels or by apparatus, will only be disintegrating the method and making it lose all its essence and meaning, finally turning it into a course of exercises without further ado and moving it light years away from what contrology really is.

Being a Pilates teacher has, from my point of view, many advantages. In short, I would highlight the following:

These would be some objective reasons why receiving training in this method could become one of the greatest successes of your life. But remember, it is essential that you always make sure you are guided by real professionals who know the real method. This is the first step to guaranteeing your future success.
