Pilates & Balance
Any position or movement has a balance component associated with it, which is why it is important to work on it and take care of it. Age, sedentary life and lack of stimulation are key factors in its loss. A threat of falling, or simply a lack of a quick response reflex between the mind and the body can be serious at an advanced age, and can lead to a loss of autonomy.
The training of this ability reduces the chances of a fall, and once a fall occurs, it limits, to a large extent, its impact and damage.
The Pilates method promotes balance by working the body from the inside out and from the centre towards the extremities, while insisting on preserving the correct alignment of the structures, seeking symmetry of the two sides of the body and correct postural hygiene.
The stability of the joints and their alignment, determined by the strength of the internal musculature and in balance with the transmission of forces of the muscle chains, makes the whole body function correctly, efficiently and safely. All this provides greater precision and coordination in body movements or responses, achieving greater balance and resistance.
On the other hand, poor foot positions lead to alterations in the muscle chains of the entire lower limb and can interfere with postural balance and cause discomfort and injury to the rest of the body.
The Pilates method provides a great deal of work on proprioception of the foot, the base of support and reception of the load and movement, by training barefoot. In this way, and through the body's receptors, the brain establishes the neural connections necessary for the body to seek global stability in different positions with exercises that challenge balance.
Pilates provides a correct functioning of the body and a sense of balance thanks also to the body awareness that it develops at all times. If you want to work on your balance, as well as your coordination, fluidity, strength and flexibility, this is the method for you.
